Uttarakhand CM says initiative seeks to connect India’s traditional knowledge with contemporary education

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday inaugurated the first Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam at Patanjali Wellness Yog Gram in Haridwar, marking the launch of an initiative aimed at taking the country’s traditional knowledge systems into the contemporary era.
Following the inauguration, Dhami extended his greetings and best wishes to Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna and the entire Patanjali family.
The Chief Minister said Haridwar holds a special place in India’s spiritual, cultural and Sanatan traditions. According to him, the establishment of the Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam in the “Devbhoomi” represents an important effort to connect India’s longstanding knowledge heritage with the needs of the modern age.
Dhami highlighted the historical importance of the Gurukula system, saying that for thousands of years it has served as a means of imparting knowledge along with values, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
He said India’s traditional education systems have historically placed emphasis not only on academic learning but also on character building, self-discipline and a balanced approach to life.
The inauguration of the new Gurukulam is being viewed as an initiative focused on bringing Ayurveda and traditional Indian knowledge into an organised educational framework while retaining the broader values associated with the country’s ancient learning traditions.
The programme also highlighted Haridwar’s continuing role as a centre for yoga, Ayurveda, spirituality and Indian cultural traditions.
The Patanjali Ayurveda Gurukulam is expected to further promote the study and dissemination of Ayurveda and related traditional knowledge, while seeking to establish a link between India’s heritage-based learning and contemporary educational approaches.
