A political controversy has erupted in Bihar over a police press release concerning the arrest of four people in connection with an alleged misbehavior case involving a minor girl in Samastipur.
Samastipur MP Shambhavi Choudhary shared the police press release on her social media platform. However, RJD leader and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the portion containing the names of the accused had been cropped from the post.
Yadav claimed that the names were deliberately removed so that the caste identities of the accused would not become publicly visible. He further alleged that the decision was aimed at protecting political interests.
According to Yadav, the original police release contained the names of all four arrested accused, while the version shared by Choudhary did not display that portion. He questioned why the names had been omitted from the post.
Tejashwi Raises Questions Over the Post
Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the omission was intentional and accused the Samastipur MP of indirectly shielding the accused rather than highlighting the issue faced by the minor victim.
He also questioned whether the government and its political leadership could effectively address crimes against women and minors if political considerations became part of the public response to such cases.
The four names cited by Yadav from the police release were Rahul Paswan, Awadhesh Paswan, Rambabu Sahani and Vikas Sharma.
The controversy has now become a political issue in Bihar, with questions being raised over the manner in which official information related to the case was shared on social media. The allegations made by Tejashwi Yadav are political claims; the reasons behind the cropping of the post would need to be established separately.
