Police investigate alleged knife attack inside rented home in Dumartarai; suspect also injured and hospitalised

RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH: A family dispute in Raipur’s Dumartarai area turned fatal on Saturday night, with police alleging that a 36-year-old man attacked his wife and two minor sons with a knife inside their rented home.

The two children died at the scene, while the woman was critically injured and later declared dead at a hospital. The alleged assailant was also found injured and has been taken into police custody while receiving medical treatment.

Police said the investigation is still at an early stage and that the precise circumstances leading to the deaths are yet to be established.

Incident Reported From Dumartarai

According to preliminary police information, the suspect has been identified as Bhuvneshwar Sahu, a native of Balod district, who was living with his family in a rented house in the Sahu Para locality of Dumartarai under the Mana police station area.

Police said an altercation reportedly took place inside the house on Saturday night. During the incident, the man allegedly attacked his wife, Khileshwari Sahu, and their two sons, Ashish Sahu and John Sahu, with a knife.

The exact sequence of events remains under investigation.

Two Children Died at the Scene

When police reached the residence after receiving information from neighbours, both children had already died.

The injured woman was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment, but doctors subsequently declared her dead.

The suspect was also found injured and was taken into custody. He has been admitted to Mekahara Hospital for treatment under police supervision.

Suspicion Cited as a Possible Trigger

Police officials have said that their preliminary inquiry has indicated that the accused allegedly suspected his wife’s character.

However, investigators have not treated that initial finding as a final determination of motive. Police are examining the circumstances of the family dispute, events preceding the attack and other possible factors that may have contributed to the incident.

The final cause and sequence of events will depend on evidence collected during the investigation.

Neighbours Alerted Police

The incident came to light after neighbours reportedly informed the police.

A team from Mana police station reached the residence during the night and began examining the scene. The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examination.

Investigators are also collecting physical evidence from the residence and examining information that could help establish what happened inside the house before and during the alleged attack.

Investigation Underway

Police are now trying to reconstruct the events leading up to the deaths, including the nature of the dispute, the circumstances inside the house and the events surrounding the suspect’s own injuries.

Once his medical condition permits, the accused is expected to be questioned as part of the investigation.

With three members of the same family dead, the incident has left the Dumartarai locality deeply shaken. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, while stressing that the preliminary account may change as further evidence and statements emerge.
