Hukamchand Mill Ganesh Utsav Committee Honours Supporters of Indore’s Moving Tableau Tradition

Former MLA Satyanarayan Patel and Netaji Subhash Manch chief Madan Parmalia recognised for their contribution to preserving the century-old tradition

Indore (SDNA): The Hukamchand Mill Ganesh Utsav Committee organised a felicitation ceremony at the mill premises to honour individuals and organisations that have contributed to keeping Indore’s celebrated tradition of moving religious tableaux (Chalit Jhanki) alive.

The committee has now entered the 103rd year of its Ganesh festival tradition. Over the years, akharas, donors, artists and community members have played an important role in supporting the preparation and presentation of the moving tableaux associated with the mill celebrations.

During the ceremony, the committee honoured contributors with mementoes, shawls and coconuts in recognition of their support.

Satyanarayan Patel felicitated for continued support

Former MLA and senior Congress leader Satyanarayan Patel was specially honoured for his continued financial support to the mill tableaux and his contribution to sustaining the cultural tradition.

Speaking on the occasion, Patel said that the moving tableaux represent an important part of Indore’s cultural identity and assured the organisers of his continued support.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Madan Parmalia, president of Netaji Subhash Manch, for his sustained efforts in raising issues concerning the city’s mill tableaux and working for the preservation of the tradition.

Madan Parmalia recognised for long-standing efforts

Parmalia, who has been associated with efforts to protect and promote the mill tableau tradition since 1992, was also felicitated by the committee.

The organisers noted his continued involvement in raising awareness about the heritage associated with the mill areas and supporting efforts to keep the tradition active.

Akhara members and artists also honoured

The felicitation programme also recognised the ustads and khalifas of nine akharas, along with tableau artist Swati Deepak Lawangde.

The honours acknowledged the collective contribution of performers, artists, community groups and supporters who help bring the annual moving tableaux to life.

Patel said that he would continue to stand with those working to preserve Indore’s cultural traditions. Referring to Parmalia’s efforts, he said that he was also working continuously alongside the community in support of the tradition.

Members of the Hukamchand Mill Ganesh Utsav Committee, including Narendra Shrivansh, Kishanlal Bokre, Pratibhan Singh Bundela, Subhash Surose, Sudhakar Kamble, Kailash Yadav and Madhukar Galande, among others, were present at the programme.

The organisers said the felicitation was intended not merely as an honour but also as an acknowledgement of the collective efforts that have helped preserve the moving tableau tradition through successive generations.
