According to police, the arrested suspects have been identified as Manoharlal, 23, a resident of Chhutan Agaur under Chhutan police station in Barmer district, and Dinesh Kumar, 24, a resident of Bhuniya under Dhanau police station in Barmer district.

Intelligence Input Triggers Police Operation

Balotra Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Kawat, IPS, said intensified action is being taken against the trafficking of narcotics and illegal weapons in the district.

Police surveillance has also reportedly been strengthened in view of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections.

According to the police account, on October 1, 2026, the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), Balotra, received information about a black Scorpio travelling from Ramji Gol towards Dhorimanna. The vehicle was allegedly suspected of carrying illegal weapons.

Acting on the information, personnel from Dhorimanna Police Station established a checkpoint and began monitoring vehicles in the area.

Driver Allegedly Accelerated After Seeing Police

Police said the suspected Scorpio appeared at the checkpoint and officers signalled the driver to stop. Instead of complying, the driver allegedly accelerated and turned the vehicle onto an unpaved road in the Sudaberi area.

The police team followed the vehicle. When the road ahead reportedly became inaccessible, the occupants allegedly abandoned the Scorpio and attempted to flee on foot.

Police teams pursued them and subsequently apprehended both suspects. The vehicle was also taken into custody for further investigation.

Narcotics and Firearms Recovered During Search

A subsequent search of the Scorpio allegedly resulted in the recovery of:

  • 180 kg of doda post
  • Two illegal pistols
  • Eight live cartridges

Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and Arms Act.

Investigators are now questioning the arrested suspects to determine the alleged source of the narcotics and weapons, their intended destination and the identities of other individuals who may be connected with the suspected supply network.

Joint Operation by DST, DCRB and Dhorimanna Police

The operation was reportedly conducted through coordinated efforts involving the District Special Team (DST), DCRB Balotra and Dhorimanna Police Station.

Police credited Assistant Sub-Inspector Gomaram of DCRB and Head Constable Mohanlal of DCRB with a key role in developing the intelligence input and facilitating the operation.

Members of the DST team included Aidanram, Jagdish Prasad, Dharmendra Singh, Shyamdan and Mukesh Kumar.

The Dhorimanna police team was led by Station House Officer Dalpat Singh, with Asuram, Anil Kumar, Jalam Singh, Chetan Ram, Shravan Kumar and Rekha Ram also participating in the operation.

Bigger Question: Where Was the Consignment Headed?

While the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics and firearms is significant, investigators are likely to focus on the larger network allegedly operating behind the consignment.

Key questions include where the doda post and weapons originated, who was supposed to receive them, how the transaction was arranged and whether other people were involved in transporting or financing the alleged operation.

The simultaneous recovery of narcotics, firearms and ammunition from the same vehicle has added another dimension to the investigation. Police may examine communication records, financial transactions, contacts and previous movements of the suspects to identify possible links to a wider trafficking network.

Investigation to Determine the Full Network

The arrest of two suspects may represent only the initial stage of the investigation. If further evidence establishes links with additional persons, suppliers or distributors, the case could potentially expand beyond the two individuals currently in custody.

At the same time, the allegations, recovery and evidence will remain subject to investigation and judicial scrutiny. The final determination of criminal liability will be made through the due process of law and the competent court.
