Raids at two warehouses uncover large quantities of medical kits and other medicines; questions raised over sourcing, storage, documentation and distribution
(SDNA) Indore, Madhya Pradesh: The seizure of approximately 19,000 abortion kits, with an estimated value of ₹92 lakh, from two warehouses in Indore has brought the storage and distribution of abortion-related medicines under scrutiny. BJP MLA and former Madhya Pradesh minister Uma Thakur has expressed concern over the recovery and called for a comprehensive investigation into the medicines’ origins and the supply network involved.
The case has drawn attention to the need for proper documentation, regulatory compliance and oversight of medicines that must be handled and used in accordance with applicable medical and legal requirements.

A subsequent operation at another warehouse in the Lasudia Mori area reportedly led to the seizure of 9,360 additional kits. The combined estimated value of the seized medicines has been put at approximately ₹92 lakh.
The scale of the recovery has prompted questions about how the stock was procured, where it was being stored and whether the relevant regulatory requirements were being followed.
Investigators Examine Procurement Records and Distribution Channels
A key aspect of the investigation is expected to be the identification of the original suppliers and the intended destinations of the seized stock.
Investigators are examining issues relating to purchase invoices, stock registers, storage conditions and sales documentation. These records may help establish the movement of the medicines through the supply chain and determine whether the procurement and distribution processes complied with applicable regulations.
The investigation will also need to establish the nature of the business operations associated with the warehouses and the responsibilities of those involved in handling the stock.
Uma Thakur Calls for a Detailed Investigation
BJP MLA and former minister Uma Thakur has raised concerns over the recovery of such a large quantity of abortion kits and called for a thorough examination of the entire supply network.
The demand centres on tracing the medicines from their source to their intended recipients, verifying the relevant documentation and identifying any violations of applicable rules, if established.
A detailed inquiry could help clarify whether the medicines were being stored and distributed through authorised channels and whether any regulatory lapses occurred.
Regulatory Compliance Remains Central to the Case
Abortion-related medicines are subject to applicable medical, pharmaceutical and legal requirements. Their procurement, storage, sale and use must comply with the relevant rules and professional safeguards.
The seizure therefore raises important questions about the documentation supporting the stock, the conditions under which it was stored and the channels through which it was intended to be distributed.
However, the recovery of the kits alone does not establish that an illegal operation or wider conspiracy was involved. Such conclusions must depend on verified evidence and the findings of the investigation.
Investigation Findings Awaited
Authorities are continuing to examine the source of the seized medicines and the possible distribution network connected with the two warehouses.
The findings are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the stock, the compliance status of the operations and whether further action is warranted under the applicable law.
For now, the focus remains on establishing the facts through documentary evidence, tracing the supply chain and ensuring accountability wherever violations are confirmed.
