(SDNA) ₹100-Crore Alania Lift Irrigation Project to Transform Agriculture Across 22 Villages in Kota

A 3,057.52-Hectare Agricultural Area in Ladpura and Sangod Tehsils Set to Benefit; 242.66-Km Pipeline Network Planned to Improve Irrigation Access

(SDNA) Kota, Rajasthan. Farmers in 22 villages across Rajasthan’s Kota district are set to benefit from the proposed Alania Lift Irrigation Project, an initiative aimed at expanding irrigation access by utilizing available water from the Chambal Right Main Canal. With an estimated investment of nearly ₹100 crore, the project is designed to bring 3,057.52 hectares of agricultural land under an improved irrigation network. Work on the project is expected to commence soon.

The initiative is being advanced with the support of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and the continued efforts of Ladpura MLA Kalpana Devi. The project is expected to address irrigation challenges in agricultural areas where geographical constraints have limited the benefits of the existing canal system.

22 Villages Across Two Tehsils to Receive Irrigation Benefits

The project covers 18 villages in Ladpura tehsil, encompassing 2,000.51 hectares of agricultural land, and four villages in Sangod tehsil, covering another 1,057.01 hectares. Together, these areas account for a proposed irrigation coverage of 3,057.52 hectares.

The villages identified in Ladpura tehsil are Mawasa, Prahladpura, Jampura, Dhani, Chhipanhedi, Shankarpura, Charanhedi, Parliya, Seemalhedi, Arliya, Barodiya, Ranipura, Gandiphali, Bhagwanpura, Arandkheda, Deeppura, Kitalhedi and Baniyani.

In Sangod tehsil, the project will cover agricultural land in Kurad, Khajuri, Banda and Brijalya.

The expansion of irrigation infrastructure is expected to improve water accessibility for farmers in these villages and support more systematic agricultural planning.

Main Pumping Station Planned at Ladpur Village

A major component of the project will be a pumping station at Ladpur village, under the Abhaypura Gram Panchayat in the Ladpura Assembly constituency. The station is proposed to be constructed along the Chambal Right Main Canal.

The facility will have five pumps, including four for regular operations and one standby unit to support operational continuity. The combined pumping capacity is planned at 26 cusecs.

The project proposes to utilize approximately 5.75 million cubic metres of surplus water from the Chambal Right Main Canal. The objective is to channel this available water towards agricultural areas that have not been able to receive adequate irrigation benefits through the existing canal infrastructure.

Pipeline Network Spanning 242.66 Kilometres

To carry water from the pumping station to agricultural fields, the project envisages an extensive pipeline distribution system.

The proposed infrastructure includes:

  • DI main pipeline: 23.56 kilometres.
  • HDPE distribution pipeline: 219.10 kilometres.
  • Total pipeline network: 242.66 kilometres.

The distribution system will also provide one outlet for every four hectares of command area. This arrangement is intended to facilitate the distribution of irrigation water across the designated agricultural land.

The extensive pipeline network is a central feature of the project, as it will enable water to be transported to fields beyond the immediate reach of the existing canal system.

Farmers Expect Better Irrigation Access and Agricultural Opportunities

Once operational, the project is expected to improve irrigation availability and provide greater flexibility in crop planning. More reliable access to water could help farmers manage irrigation schedules more effectively and create opportunities to improve agricultural productivity and cropping intensity.

The initiative may also benefit farmers whose land has remained underserved because of the geographical limitations of the existing irrigation network. However, the actual impact on crop yields and farm incomes will depend on the timely completion of the project, effective water distribution and its long-term management.

MLA Kalpana Devi expressed gratitude to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for their support in advancing the project. She reiterated that ensuring irrigation water reaches farmers’ fields remains one of her key priorities.

A Step Towards Strengthening Rural Agriculture

The Alania Lift Irrigation Project represents an infrastructure initiative focused on making better use of available canal water and extending irrigation facilities to agricultural areas that need additional support. By combining a dedicated pumping station with a large-scale pipeline network, the project aims to bridge existing gaps in water distribution.

For farmers across the identified villages in Ladpura and Sangod tehsils, the successful implementation of the scheme could open up new possibilities for agricultural planning, improved water management and more sustainable farming practices.

The project’s ultimate success will depend on timely execution, efficient operation of the pumping infrastructure and equitable distribution of water among the beneficiary farmers.
