The sudden arrival of the officials caught shopkeepers and local residents off guard. Before people could fully understand what was happening, the bulldozer began clearing temporary structures and obstructions from the roadside. The unexpected operation created considerable commotion across the marketplace.
While the administration maintains that the initiative is aimed at improving traffic movement and providing relief to the public, local traders and residents have raised concerns about the manner in which the operation was conducted.
Collector’s Traffic Jam Experience Sparks Local Discussion
Traffic congestion has been a long-standing problem in Bamaur Kalan. According to local discussions, Shivpuri Collector Arpit Verma reportedly faced a prolonged traffic jam while travelling from Shivpuri towards Chanderi recently.
Following this incident, administrative activity in the town appears to have intensified, with the anti-encroachment operation becoming a major talking point among residents.
However, no official confirmation has established a direct connection between the Collector’s reported experience and the subsequent demolition drive.
Residents are questioning why such swift action was not taken earlier when ordinary commuters had been struggling with the same problem for years.
Senior Officials Lead the Operation Alongside Police Personnel
The anti-encroachment drive was conducted under the supervision of senior administrative and police officials.
Pichhore SDM Mamta Shakya, Khaniyadhana Tehsildar Nishikant Jain and Bamaur Kalan Police Station In-charge Kusum Goyal were present at the spot along with a substantial police force.
The operation commenced at approximately 5:30 PM. A bulldozer was deployed to remove temporary encroachments obstructing roadside movement. Officials supervised the operation as the team worked to clear the affected stretches.
The administration clarified that permanent structures were not demolished during this operation. The action was limited to removing temporary encroachments that were obstructing traffic and restricting road access.
Years of Public Distress Raise Questions About Administrative Response
For residents of Bamaur Kalan, traffic congestion is not a recent development. The market and adjoining roads frequently witness long queues of vehicles, causing inconvenience to pedestrians, two-wheeler riders and four-wheeler motorists.
Local residents have questioned why the authorities did not introduce an effective solution earlier despite the problem continuing for several years.
The central concern is whether administrative action was prompted only after a senior official reportedly experienced the same inconvenience that ordinary citizens have faced regularly.
Residents largely support removing encroachments but insist that the administration must also develop a comprehensive traffic-management plan rather than relying solely on occasional bulldozer operations.
Traders Object to Sudden Action Without Prior Notice
One of the major points of disagreement concerns the absence of advance information before the operation.
Shopkeepers have questioned why no public announcement was made, why affected traders were not informed beforehand and why they were not given sufficient time to remove their goods and belongings safely.
While acknowledging the administration’s authority to remove encroachments, traders believe that affected individuals should receive reasonable notice and an opportunity to make necessary arrangements.
The timing of the operation has also raised concerns, particularly as the festive season is an important period for small businesses. Traders operating with limited financial resources fear that sudden action could affect their livelihoods and potentially cause financial losses.
SDM Mamta Shakya Says Action Is in Public Interest
Explaining the administration’s position, Pichhore SDM Mamta Shakya stated that the authorities were proceeding in accordance with established rules.
According to her, increasing encroachments around the Bamaur Kalan pond area had been contributing to frequent traffic congestion, causing considerable inconvenience to the public.
She clarified that the operation began between approximately 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM, rather than late at night.
The SDM further explained that the administration had not demolished any permanent structures during the drive. The operation was focused exclusively on removing temporary encroachments and clearing the road to facilitate smoother movement.
She described the initiative as being entirely in the public interest and stated that the campaign would continue, subject to cooperation from local residents.
Will Removing Encroachments Bring a Permanent Solution?
With the initial operation underway, the biggest challenge before the administration will be ensuring that the cleared roads remain free from encroachments in the future.
Experience from similar drives in other areas suggests that encroachments can return if regular monitoring and effective enforcement are not maintained.
Residents are therefore seeking more than a temporary clearance operation. Their expectations include:
- Regular monitoring to prevent fresh encroachments.
- Proper parking arrangements for vehicles.
- Restrictions on placing commercial goods and temporary structures on roads.
- Effective traffic management throughout the market.
- Fair advance communication with affected traders before future operations.
The issue is no longer limited to bulldozer action; it also concerns administrative accountability and long-term planning.
Will Bamaur Kalan finally receive lasting relief from its years-old traffic congestion? Will traders be given adequate prior notice before similar operations in the future? And can the administration ensure that the cleared roads remain accessible through consistent monitoring?
For now, the administration has initiated its anti-encroachment campaign. Whether this operation becomes the beginning of a lasting improvement or remains a temporary exercise will depend on the follow-up measures taken in the coming days.
