KGMU Nursing Recruitment Row: Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP Government

SP chief questions alleged irregularities in 1,276-post recruitment; says a thorough probe could uncover links “far and wide”

Lucknow (SDNA): Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has stepped up his attack on the BJP government over alleged irregularities in the 2023 nursing recruitment at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.

Reacting to reports surrounding the recruitment process, Yadav questioned the manner in which the selections were made and suggested that a detailed investigation could reveal connections extending well beyond the immediate case.

According to media reports, more than 500 candidates selected for the 1,276 nursing posts had reportedly undergone coaching at the same coaching institute in Jaipur. The unusual concentration of selections has prompted scrutiny of the recruitment process, with investigators reportedly examining whether there were any links or irregularities associated with the selection exercise.

Akhilesh Raises Questions Over Recruitment Process

In a post on social media platform X, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the KGMU nursing recruitment controversy should not be viewed in isolation. He referred to earlier recruitment-related controversies involving medical institutions and mentioned Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), and Saifai Medical College.

The SP chief also linked the issue with recruitment for nursing and paramedical technical staff at KGMU, questioning whether investigating agencies would examine the entire chain of events rather than limiting the inquiry to a few individuals or procedural aspects.

“The Investigation Could Go Much Further”

Yadav opened his social media remarks with the statement, “If the investigation comes out, it will go a long way…”, suggesting that a comprehensive probe could expose a wider network behind the alleged irregularities.

He further alleged that attempts to facilitate the entry of unsuitable or ineligible candidates into the medical sector through improper means could have serious consequences for the healthcare system and public safety.

However, these remain political allegations, and any wrongdoing will have to be established through a proper investigation and official findings.

Focus Turns to Transparency in Medical Recruitment

The controversy has once again brought the issue of transparency and fairness in recruitment for medical and nursing positions into focus. Since nursing staff play a critical role in patient care, questions surrounding the integrity of their selection process can have implications beyond employment itself.

The reported concentration of successful candidates from a single coaching institute has therefore become a key point of discussion. Investigators are expected to examine recruitment records, examination-related documents and other evidence to determine whether the pattern resulted from legitimate circumstances or points to any malpractice.

Probe Findings Likely to Determine the Next Course

At present, the allegations surrounding the KGMU recruitment process have not resulted in a final finding of wrongdoing against specific individuals. The outcome of the investigation will be crucial in determining whether the recruitment process was conducted properly or whether any irregularities occurred.

If violations are established, the authorities would then have to determine responsibility and decide on appropriate action.

For now, the KGMU nursing recruitment controversy remains under scrutiny, with Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks adding a significant political dimension to the issue.
