Bhopal, September 24, 2026 (SDNA): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Chandrashekhar as the new State General Secretary (Organisation) for Madhya Pradesh, ending an around eight-month vacancy in the post. The appointment was part of a wider organisational reshuffle announced by BJP national president Nitin Nabin on September 24. Chandrashekhar will be based in Bhopal.
The organisation general secretary plays a key coordination role within a state unit, working across the party’s organisational structure and maintaining coordination between different levels of the organisation.
Why the Appointment Matters
The post had remained vacant after Hitanand Sharma returned to the RSS earlier in 2026. During the intervening period, organisational responsibilities in Madhya Pradesh were being handled under the existing party arrangement.
With Chandrashekhar’s appointment, the state unit now has a full-time organisational general secretary. He is expected to work alongside state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal on organisational matters.
Who Is Chandrashekhar?
Chandrashekhar comes from an RSS pracharak background and has worked in organisational assignments in different parts of the country. Reports identify him as a native of Banda in Uttar Pradesh.
His organisational journey has included responsibilities in the Kashi region and western Uttar Pradesh. He was also associated with organisational work in Varanasi during the 2014 Lok Sabha election, when Narendra Modi contested the seat.
Reports also state that Chandrashekhar was appointed Rajasthan BJP’s organisation general secretary in 2017, where he worked for several years before moving to Telangana. He subsequently handled organisational responsibilities in Telangana before his latest assignment in Madhya Pradesh.
His Connection With the 2014 Varanasi Campaign
One of the most frequently cited aspects of Chandrashekhar’s organisational career is his role in Varanasi during the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
He was involved in the party’s organisational work in the constituency during Narendra Modi’s campaign. The assignment brought him into a high-profile election environment and added to his experience in managing party-level organisational operations.
Experience Across Rajasthan and Telangana
Chandrashekhar later moved to Rajasthan, where he was given the organisation general secretary’s responsibility in 2017. After the 2023 Assembly elections, he was shifted to Telangana, where he continued working on organisational matters.
His latest transfer to Madhya Pradesh marks another significant change in his organisational responsibilities. Reports describe the move as part of the BJP’s broader restructuring of its state-level organisational machinery.
What Will Be His Role in Madhya Pradesh?
As State General Secretary (Organisation), Chandrashekhar’s responsibilities are expected to include coordination within the party organisation, communication between different organisational levels and strengthening the party’s structure across districts and grassroots units.
The BJP has simultaneously assigned other senior organisational functionaries to different states as part of the September 24 reshuffle. Shivprakash, for example, has been given organisational responsibility covering Madhya Pradesh along with Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Goa at the national level.
Chandrashekhar’s appointment therefore places him at the centre of the BJP’s organisational structure in Madhya Pradesh, where his previous experience in Rajasthan, Telangana and other regions is likely to be relevant to his new assignment.
